ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton and UT Arlington played two thrilling games that saw both teams trade the lead for both games. However, it was the Texans that would come out on top with the offense showing off in the later innings. Texans will look to complete the sweep tomorrow at 12 p.m.
Game 1: Tarleton 10, UT Arlington 7
Game one of the series was initially slated to be played on Friday night, however, was pushed to Saturday at 2:30 p.m. due to weather. However, the change of schedule did not affect the Texans' offense as they combined for 10 runs and hits with six of those runs coming in the last two innings.
Tarleton's offense would take full advantage of UT Arlington's miscues in the field and score three runs in the top of the first inning. However, the Mavericks would get two back in the bottom of the second to make it 3-2.
In the fifth inning, the Texans would extend their lead with a single up the middle by
Kayla Wallace bringing home
Tristyn Trull. UT Arlington would go on and score another run in the bottom half making the score 4-3.
The game looked like the game was going to get away from UT Arlington when
Kelci Hill hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. However, UT Arlington hit a three-run home run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game up going into the seventh.
It was a combination of
Morgan Medford,
Jordan Dickerson, and a double by
Amanda Desario that propelled the Texans offense to four runs in the seventh inning.
Tristan Bridges got the win as she started and finished the game in the circle. Bridges struck out six batters while giving up nine hits on 160 pitches.
Tarleton's offense combined for 10 hits and four walks. Wallace led the team in hits with three, while Dickerson, Hill, and Trull all had two. Desario and Hill led the team in RBIs with two apiece.
Game 2: Tarleton 6, UT Arlington 5
The second game of the double header saw UT Arlington take the lead in the second inning. Then, the Texans would tie the game back up with a home run by
Austin Germain in the third inning and then an RBI single by Medford in the fourth.
Brittany Coe would give the Texans the lead in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly to right field, however, UT Arlington would score three in the bottom half to make the score 5-3 going into the seventh.
Hill got the inning started with a double off the wall and then Germain walked on five pitches. Trull would bring in Hill to make the score 4-5.
Katy Schaefer singled to load the bases. Then, UT Arlington changed pitchers, but it did not matter. Wallace came up to the plate and walked on five pitches to tie the game. Medford hit in the go-ahead and eventually winning run with a single up the middle to score Trull.
Grace Garcia threw 5.2 innings striking out six on 125 pitches.
Kennedy Ferguson came in after Garcia and did not allow any hits on her way to getting the win.
Medford led the offense going 3-4 with two RBIs. Germain and Schaefer both recorded two hits.
