OREM, Utah – Tarleton State Volleyball fell to Utah Valley at Lockhart Arena on Thursday evening. Thursday marked the first of two road matches for the Purple and White to close out the regular season.
The Texans (7-21 overall, 2-13 WAC), dropped to the Wolverines (18-9, 9-6) in three sets, 21-25, 17-25, 17-25.
Allison Bryant registered a team-high 11 kills, putting her just two away from becoming the first Texan to reach 400 kills in a Division I season. Bryant also tallied eight digs and two blocks against UVU.
Emma Burke led the team in blocks with three. Burke currently ranks fifth in the WAC in total blocks (113). The junior also notched a service ace.
Megan Hodges led the Texans with 22 assists, keeping her streak alive of double-digit assists in every match this season. Emma Halcomb recorded a team-high nine digs, followed by Carly Lange and Bryant, who each had eight.
In the opening stanza, the Wolverines sparked a 11-7 run to open the match. Tarleton State responded with a 4-0 run that contained kills from LaNeah Lara and Bryant. Utah Valley regained control of the lead, going on a small run to take a 21-18 advantage. The Wolverines kept their foot on the gas to achieve the set victory, 25-21.
The second set started with a back-and-forth exchange. The conference foes found themselves tied at 7-7 until the Wolverines rallied a 10-4 run, taking a commanding 17-11 lead. Three consecutive kills from Burke would keep the Texans in contention. However, the Purple and White couldn't persevere, dropping the second frame, 17-25.
A block from Tehana Mo'o and Burke gave the Texans a small spark in the third game at the 2-1 point. A kill from Frank and three consecutive attack errors from UVU helped Tarleton regain the lead, 9-6. The Wolverines orchestrated a 12-3 run, notching an 18-12 lead late in the third stanza. Tarleton was unable to erase the deficit, falling to Utah Valley, 17-25.
The Purple and White will travel to Seattle on Saturday to face the Redhawks on the road. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+ with first serve set for 3 p.m. CT.
