COMMERCE, Texas – Week three doesn't get any easier for the Texans. They are set to compete in the 2024 Lion Invitational and will face reigning Summit League Champions Nebraska-Omaha, South Dakota and host, Texas A&M-Commerce.
The Texans are set to play five games across the three-day tournament hosted at the John Cain Family Softball Complex.
They will open things up with a game vs. the Mavericks of Nebraska-Omaha at 11 a.m. on Friday. They will close out day one of the invitational with a matchup vs. the Coyotes of South Dakota at 1:30 p.m.
Day two will get underway at 2 p.m. Saturday when Tarleton State goes up against Nebraska-Omaha for the second time. The day will finish with a nightcap matchup vs. the host, Texas A&M-Commerce at 7 p.m.
The final day of the tournament will pin the Texans and the Coyotes against each other one final time. The game is set for an 11:30 a.m. first pitch.
Last time the Texans were in action they went 4-1 in the Whataburger Invitational that was hosted at the Tarleton Softball Complex. The Purple and White opened things up with a 8-1 win over Lafayette and closed out day one handing Idaho State their first loss of the season with the 5-2 victory.
Day two was anything but what the Texans had planned. After the commanding 8-1 victory of Lafayette the day before, the offense went cold for Tarleton State as they were shutout for the first time this season 3-0.
The Purple and White was originally scheduled to play two games on Saturday but their matchup with Mississippi Valley State was pushed to Sunday due to low temperatures. This ended up working out in the Texans favor.
Tarleton State opened the final day of their tournament looking for a bounce back win after the stunning loss to Lafayette. The Texans did just that taking the tight 3-2 win over Buffalo.
The final game of the Whataburger couldn't have been written any better.
Kendall Daniel made her home debut for the Texans and became just the second freshman in program history to ever throw a no-hitter and just the 11th all-time.
All five Tarleton State games will be
streamed with the matchup vs. Texas A&M-Commerce will broadcast live on
ESPN+. There will also be live stats for all games during the tournament.
