RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Tarleton State (15-23, 3-8 WAC) dropped the final game of the three-game WAC series with CBU (20-18, 7-3 WAC) 8-0 in Riverside Saturday night.
This marked the first trip to Riverside after the Texans hosted the Lancers for the first six games of the all-time series between the two teams in 2021, 2023. The Purple and White ended up on the wrong side of things dropping Game 3 of the series Saturday night after falling twice in the doubleheader Friday Night.
It the Lancers who led wire-to-wire as the Texans were shutout 8-0 in five innings in the final game of the series after mustering up just four hits and committing two errors.
CBU jumped out to a fast start going up 3-0 in the first as Kalena Burns hit a three-run shot to left center providing the first three of eight runs that the Lancers would score over five innings.
In the third inning, Kayla Lyon doubled to right center making it a 4-0 deficit for the Texans.
The following inning Lyon once again collected a hit, this time a triple to center field as two Lancers scored making it 6-0. Burns got back in on the action in the fourth as she singled up the middle scoring Lyon putting the game in run-rule territory.
In the bottom of the fifth the Lancers capped things off scoring the eighth and final run to completed the run-rule as Mattie Severns scored on a wild pitch by
Makenzie Dunbar.
The Texans left six runners on across the five innings with only four Texans getting a hit.
Austin Germain,
Tristyn Trull,
Kalyn Hill and
Bella Hernandez were the four to get a hit each.
Tarleton State used three pitchers across the five innings with
Kendall Daniel and
Alexa Rehmeier each going 2.0 IP followed by Dunbar's 0.1 IP. Daniel gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits, struck out one as well as walked one. Rehmeier gave up four runs as well but on five hits and struck out two. Dunbar gave up no runs on no hits despite the wild pitch as the run was credited to Rehmeier.
For California Baptist, Jazmine Castaneda threw a complete game going 5.0 IP giving up just four hits, striking out two, walking one and hit one batter as well.
The Texans now turn their attention to an opponent much closer to home in the Ladyjacks of Stephen F. Austin. Tarleton State will head to the Piney Wood Friday-Saturday for a three-game series at the SFA Softball Field in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Tarleton State and Stephen F. Austin have played a combined 11 games with the record favoring the Ladyjacks 8-3. Two of the 11 games were played at a neutral site in 2021. The three-game series will mark the Texans first trip to SFA since Aprill 2022. Tarleton State went 1-2 in Nacogdoches winning the middle game of the series 4-2.
