MONROE, La. – Tarleton State was swept in the 2024 ULM Beach Invitational dropping four matches Friday-Saturday.
The Texans played Hendrix College and host ULM on Friday followed by Eastern Kentucky and Central Arkansas on Saturday.
Tarleton State 1 Hendrix College 4
Emma Halcomb and
Allison Bryant won the Texans' lone point with a 2-0 win over Kyler Greenlee and Mabrey Matz on Court 1. The pair won 21-12 and 21-15.
On Court 5
Charlize Ching and
Tatum Busch fell in straight sets to Liz Roy and Morgan Ford 21-15 and 21-18. They were one of two pairs to fall in straight sets.
Grayson Schirpik and
Breanna McDonough fell 21-13 and 21-10 to Rebecca Solina and Abby Collier on Court 2.
Two Texan pairs fell in three sets to Hendrix College.
Rajini Fitzmaurice and
Sydney Garrison fell on Court 3 17-21, 21-19, 15-12 to Avery Brooks-Evans and Eliana Oden. This marked the clinching point for Hendrix. Isabell Gonzaba and
Melina Maldonado Ortiz fell on Court 4 to Kailey Carrico and Hailey Gripka 15-21, 21-16 and 15-7.
Tarleton State 1 ULM 4
In Match 2 of Day 1, Halcomb and Bryant once again picked up the lone win in straight sets again. The pair defeated Tamsie Black and Kaylie Beck 25-23 and 21-15 on Court 1.
The Texans Court 4 pairing of Gonzaba and Maldonado Ortiz fell 25-23, 21-12 to Kate Taylor and Eden Anderson.
Ching and Busch fell 21-17, 21-14 to Maggie Cox and Katie Felts on Court 5. On Court 2 McDonough and Schirpik fell to Claire Williamson and Kaitly Beck 21-12, 21-13. This was the clinch point for ULM. Fitzmaurice and Garrison went down 25-23, 21-19 on Court 3 to Bailey Hope and Kaitlyn Nowak.
Tarleton State 0 Eastern Kentucky 5
Day 2 of the Invitational saw the Texans fall 5-0 in Match 1 of the day.
Ching and Busch fell 21-14, 21-19 to Gabriella Armitage and Rachel Mueller on Court 5. Gonzaba and Maldonado Ortiz fell on Court 4 to Natalie Taggart and Elizabeth Fonvielle 21-18, 22-20.
The clinching point for EKU came as Garrison and Fitzmaurice fell 21-14, 21-16 to Riley Cutler and Madalyn Richardson on Court 3.
Schirpik and McDonough dropped their match 21-12, 21-16 on Court 2 to Reagan Sandlin and Emily-Kate Lonergan. Halcomb and Bryant dropped their first match of the weekend in straight sets 24-22, 21-16 to Paityn Walker and Sarah Mitchell.
Tarleton State 2 Central Arkansas 3
The Texans' closest match came in their final match of the weekend vs. Central Arkansas as they fell 3-2.
Schirpik and McDonough fell 21-15, 21-13 on Court 2 vs. Brooke Kuball and Katie Atkinson. Ching and Busch dropped their match to Audrey Cathcart and Madelyn White on Court 5 21-13, 21-11.
The clinching point for Central Arkansas came as Gonzaba and Maldonado Ortiz fell to Liliana Irizary and Ella Weilert 21-10, 21-14 on Court 4.
The two wins for the Texans came on Courts 1 and 3. On Court 1, Halcomb and Bryant got things back on track winning their match in three sets after dropping set one 9-21. The pair came back to win sets two and three 21-14, 15-9. This marked the pairs third win of the weekend.
Garrison and Fitzmaurice rounded things out for the Texans with a win in straight sets. The pair won 21-15, 21-13 over Anna Linskey and Naya Tan on Court 3.
The Texans will be back in action for their final two regular season matchups on April 10 when they take on Stephen F. Austin and Houston Christian in Houston.
