Tarleton State set for final 3 games of homestand with Utah Tech Friday-Saturday

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Following back-to-back shutout run-rule wins over Texas Southern, the Texans (18-28, 4-13 WAC) are primed and ready for a three-game conference series Friday-Saturday when they host Utah Tech (15-26, 8-9 WAC).
 
Things are set to get underway at 4 p.m. Friday with Game 1 followed by Game 2 at 6:30 p.m. The final game of the series is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch Saturday afternoon.
 
The Texans are 1-2 all-time vs the Trailblazers with the run total favoring Utah Tech 20-19. All three games were played in St. George so the Trailblazers will be making their first trip to the Cowboy Capital of the World for games four, five and six between the two teams.
 
The last time the two teams met up, it saw the squad from Utah walk things off 8-7 in the bottom of the eighth after putting up a three-spot in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.
 
The last time the Texans were in action, they earned back to-back shutout run-rule wins over the Texas Southern Tigers 8-0 (6), 11-0 (5). In Game 2 of the doubleheader Katy Schaefer hit a grand slam in the first inning, marking her 38th Texan career home run. She now sits just three away from tying second all-time in program history.
 
Individually for the Texans, Kelci Hill has the most hits in the nation with 69. She is tied ninth in doubles in the nation with 19 this season. The senior outfielder has five triples, tied for 10th best in the nation. The California native is 27th in total bases with 101.
 
Schaefer continues to rewrite the history books of Tarleton State Softball in a trio of categories. She currently sits third all-time in home runs with 38 and is just three away from tying Arianna Rodriguez (41, 2010-2013). The Sweeny, Texas, native, also sits third all-time in RBI with 183, just eight away from tying Nyka Wood (191, 2015-2018). Schaefer has now also moved into sixth all-time in defensive assists with 325 passing Rodriguez (322, 2010-13) following the Texas Southern doubleheader this past Tuesday.
 
Individually for the Trailblazers, LB Kahahaqai-Kekona leads the team in batting average with a .328 average and has an OPS of .736, fourth best on the team. Kahahaqai-Kekona also leads the Trailblazers in hits this season with 39. Rachel Campbell leads the team in long balls with eight thus far this season. Campbell also leads the team in RBI with 23.
 
The doubleheader on Friday will air live on ESPN+ as well as live stats will be available for both contests as well. Saturday will air live on WAC International and live stats will be available as well.
