Texans set for WAC Tournament opener vs. UT Arlington following thrilling season finale

SEATTLE – Just four days after back-to-back thrillers to send the Texans to the Pacific Northwest, the Purple and White will be set for their opening game of the WAC Tournament vs. UT Arlington Wednesday in a win or go home contest.
 
The game will mark the opening of the 2024 WAC Softball Tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT at Logan Field on the campus of Seattle U.
 
Last time the two teams faced off the Texans took the series victory over the Mavericks 2-1 with an exciting Game 3 9-1 (5) victory to secure a 5-1 all-time record over the squad from Arlington.
 
The last time the Texans were in action it saw them fight back winning back-to-back games via late inning rallies to punch their ticket to the 2024 WAC Softball Tournament.
 
The last time the Mavericks were in action it saw them drop their series with the Redhawks of Seattle U 2-1. The weekend prior the Texans took the series over Seattle U in Seattle 2-1. UT Arlington's lone win  was bookended by Seattle U's Game 1, 4-1 victory and then their Game 3 4-3 win after scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh.
 
Individually for the Texans, Hill has the second most hits in the nation with 84 trailing behind only Grand Canyon's Ashley Trierweiler (No. 1, 85). She is tied for the most doubles in the nation with 23 this season. The senior outfielder has five triples, tied for 24th most in the nation. The California native is 19th in total bases with 126.
 
Katy Schaefer continues to rewrite the history books of Tarleton State Softball in a trio of categories. She currently sits third all-time in home runs with 39 and is just two away from tying Arianna Rodriguez (41, 2010-2013). The Sweeny, Texas, native, also sits third all-time in RBI with 186, just five away from tying Nyka Wood (191, 2015-2018).
 
Individually for the Mavericks Camille Corona leads the team in batting average with a .410 average and has an OPS of .937, also best on the team. She also leads the Mavericks in hits this season with 64. Lindsey Franklin leads the team in long balls with seven thus far this season. She leads the team in RBI with 33.
 
The game will air live on ESPN+ as well as live stats and radio will be available with Kyle Crews on the call for the Texans.
 
The winner of the tournament opener will face third-seeded Utah Valley in what will move to a double elimination round at 4 p.m. PT/6 p.m. CT.
