ST. GEORGE, Utah – Tarleton State Volleyball fell to Utah Tech on Saturday afternoon at Burns Arena in four sets.
The Texans (5-10 overall, 0-2 WAC), won the first set but ultimately dropped their final match of the road trip to the Trailblazers (8-4, 2-0), 25-23, 15-25, 18-25, 21-25.
Tarleton had four different players with double-digit kills. Reigning WAC Player of the Week
Allison Bryant led with 15, followed by
Emma Burke (11),
Madison Frank (10), and
Tatum Busch (10). Frank has accumulated double-digit kills in three of her last four matches.
The Texans also had three players with double-digit digs. Reigning WAC Libero of the Week
Emma Halcomb led with 20, followed by
Megan Hodges (13) and
Addison Goss (10). Hodges recorded her seventh double-double and led the team in assists with 27. Goss recorded her sixth match of 10-plus digs this season.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair. The Texans and Trailblazers were tied 17-17 after an exchange of short rallies. Utah Tech went on a 5-2 run to take a three-point lead. The Texans responded with a rally to take a 23-22 lead off a run that included kills from
Tehana Mo'o and Busch. Mo'o and Burke combined for a block at the final point, clinching the first set victory for Tarleton.
In the second frame, both teams were tied at nine. The Trailblazers rounded up seven consecutive points, taking a 16-9 advantage over the Texans. The Purple and White were unable to regain momentum, dropping the second stanza, 15-25.
With the match tied 1-1, Tarleton found themselves with a one-point advantage in the third frame off a kill from Busch at the 13-12 mark. Three straight kills from Stephanie Sarmezan, Mo'o, and Bryant built up Tarleton's lead in the third. An eight-point rally from Utah Tech led to the Trailblazers taking the third set, 25-18.
In the fourth and final frame, the Purple and White found themselves trailing 15-20 despite a series of aces from
Yuna Ansquer and Goss. Utah Tech would eventually close out the match on a 25-21 set victory.
Tarleton State Volleyball will head back home to Stephenville on Thursday, Oct. 3 where they will look to defend their undefeated home streak at Wisdom Gym against Seattle U. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ with Kyle Crews on the call.
