STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Following an impressive 11-4 record following three straight home tournaments, the Purple and White will hit the road Tuesday for a mid-week matchup with Big 12 member Houston.
Last time the Texans were in action it saw the Purple and White give the home crowd lots to cheer about as Tarleton State went 5-0 which included run-rules, walk-offs and a no-hitter.
Friday saw the home squad take down Yale in the first ever matchup with the Bulldogs 7-5. Saturday brought two more wins for the Texans as they outscored their two opponents 16-4. The first matchup of the day saw Tarleton State run-rule walk-off Texas Southern 8-0 (5) followed by an 8-4 victory over North Dakota.
The final day saw
Hannah Blincoe toss the 12th no-hitter in program history as the Texans shut out the Lobos of New Mexico 2-0. The excitement wasn't over there as right after the 2-0 win, Tarleton State run-ruled Texas Southern for the second time on the weekend, this time 10-2 (5). The Texans have now outscored the Lady Tigers 54-7 through seven meetings all-time.
Through three weeks of play, the Texans have multiple athletes leaving their mark nationally.
Austin Germain currently is leading the nation in doubles with nine on the season as well as she has the 25th best batting average in the nation batting .522. With her nine doubles through 15 games, she ranks seventh in doubles per game. With lots of doubles come lots of hits and she currently ranks 14th in the nation in hits with 24. She also sits 35th in runs scored with 17 and is 36th in total bases with 38.
Tristyn Trull sits 17th in triples with two.
Other Texans top in the nation include
Kalyn Hill who is 22nd in doubles with six and has caught four base runners stealing which puts her 33rd in the nation.
Casey Schultz sits just outside the top-50 in doubles at 54th with five thus far.
Hayden Fox is 14th in the nation in sac bunts per game at 0.42. Three Texans, JJ Duke, Germain, and
Kiana Gibson are tied for 22nd in sac flies with two each.
On the pitching side of things,
Alexa Rehmeier is currently sixth in the nation in saves with two.
Shelby Schultz continues to pound the strike zone as she sits 29th in the nation in strikeouts with 43 thus far. She also ranks 15th in strikeouts per seven innings at 10.6
As a team, the Texans are ninth in the nation in doubles with 30 and triples with seven.
In the WAC, the Purple and White continue to hold five of the top-20 spots in batting average as Germain leads the entire conference. As a team, Tarleton State is in the top-two of 20 different statistical categories in the WAC.
Tarleton State and Houston are no stranger to one another as they have met four times dating back to 2021. The inaugural matchup came back on Feb. 22, 2021 when the Cougars took the win 8-0 (5). The following year Houston came north to Stephenville for a three-game series in which the Texans took a game 9-1 (5).
The Texans are set to face off with the Cougars at 6 p.m. at Cougar Softball Stadium. Houston is currently 9-4 on the season and is currently on a two-game losing streak. The game will air live on
