DENTON, Texas – Following a trip out west to open WAC play, the Texans have returned to the Lone Star State for a midweek matchup on the road at North Texas Wednesday.
Last time the two teams met, the Mean Green edged out the Texans winning 4-2 in Denton, Texas.
Austin Germain and
Tristyn Trull are the only starters from the last matchup on the roster this go-around for Tarleton State.
Through four weeks of play, the Texans have multiple athletes leaving their mark nationally.
Austin Germain currently sits 21st in the nation in doubles with nine on the season. With her nine doubles through 24 games, she ranks 40th in doubles per game. With lots of doubles come lots of hits and she currently ranks 33rd in the nation in hits with 34. She also sits 90th in total bases with 51.
Other Texans top in the nation include
Kalyn Hill who has caught seven base runners stealing which puts her 21st in the nation. JJ Duke sits 82nd in doubles with seven thus far and is 20th in sac flies with three.
Hayden Fox is 15th in the nation in sac bunts per game at 0.32.
On the pitching side of things,
Alexa Rehmeier and
Sadie Beck are currently tied for 24th in the nation in saves with two each.
Shelby Schultz continues to pound the strike zone as she sits 41st in the nation in strikeouts with 67 thus far. She also ranks 34th in strikeouts per seven innings at 8.6.
In the WAC, the Purple and White continue to hold four of the top 12 spots in batting average as Germain leads the Texans ranking second in the conference. As a team, Tarleton State is in the top-two of 13 different statistical categories in the WAC.
Game time for the midweek clash is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch at Lovelace Stadium on the campus of North Texas.
All time, North Texas holds the lead over Tarleton State 4-1 with three of the games being two-run contests. The Mean Green hold the advantage in runs scored 22-9. The first ever meeting saw the Green and White win 7-2 over the Purple and White before the squad from Stephenville won the next matchup 4-3 in the second game of the doubleheader on April 21, 2021.

Following the Texans conference opener on the road, Tarleton State will head to North Texas for a mid-week matchup on Wednesday before opening their home portion of their conference games vs. UT-Arlington Friday-Saturday.
