Tarleton State Tennis wraps up March with road trip at North Texas, UTA this weekend

STEPHENVILLE, Texas –  Tarleton State Tennis will hit the road for a pair of single matches this weekend, traveling to face North Texas at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Denton and UT Arlington at 11 a.m. on Sunday in Arlington.

The Texans are riding a wave of momentum, coming off a 5-2 victory at McNeese last  Tuesday—their seventh straight win. Tarleton State's last victory matches the longest winning streak in the program's Division I Era. The win also marked another special moment, as Tarleton State defeated a McNeese team led by former Texan assistant Sonia Carlson, now head coach of the Cowgirls.

Tarleton State's Duru Kuscu was named WAC Singles Player of the Week on Tuesday after earning a three-set win at No. 2 singles to help the Texans defeat McNeese. It marked her second singles weekly honor of 2025 and her first win since returning from injury.

Pairing up for the first time this season, Noelia Lorca and Emma Persson made an immediate impact by earning WAC Doubles Team of the Week honors. The duo secured a 6-3 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot against McNeese.

In Tarleton State's last match, the Texans secured the doubles point with wins from Persson/Lorca on Court 1 and Maria Castano/Kuscu on Court 3. It was the seventh time in eight matches that the Texans clinched the doubles point.

In singles, Ximena Morales set the tone with a straight sets win on Court 4 for her eighth singles victory of the season. Castano followed with her 11th win of the year on Court 5, continuing her standout freshman campaign. Lorca and Kuscu both won gritty three-set matches to seal the win for the Texans.

Saturday's match marks the fifth all-time meeting between Tarleton State and North Texas, with the Mean Green holding a 4-0 series lead. The last meeting came on March 19, 2024, where UNT earned a 6-1 win in Stephenville. Saturday's meeting is another chance for Tarleton State to rewrite history and extend its winning streak into uncharted territory.

North Texas enters the weekend 8-9 overall, with a 6-1 home record and two straight wins. North Texas earned its second straight win with a 4-1 upset over No. 68 nationally-ranked Tulane last Sunday. The Mean Green took the doubles point behind strong performances from Lilly Schultz/Lou Chalard and Stanislava Shulzhenko/Stadfany Nformi.

UTA sits at 5-5 overall and 4-2 at home, also seeking its first conference win of the season. Lorca made history by winning the first-ever WAC Tennis Invitational singles championship, defeating UT Arlington's Ana Paula Jimenez in a thrilling three-set final.

The match at North Texas will be streamed on UNT Tennis' website while Sunday's match at UTA can be viewed on WAC International. Live scoring available for both matches (Stat Broadcast on Saturday, iOnCourt on Sunday).
