Tarleton State Tennis starts three-match homestand against Tyler Junior College Thursday

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Tennis takes their three-match win-streak on a three-game homestand starting Thursday against Tyler Junior College at 1 p.m. at the Tarleton Tennis Facility.

The Texans come into Thursday 4-0 in home matches and No. 1 in the WAC standings at 7-3. The team is a week removed from a road trip to Oral Roberts where they dominated 6-1, claiming two victories in doubles and five in singles.

A complete performance saw the Texans sweep the WAC's weekly honors for the fourth time this season. Senior Maretha Burger and junior Emma Persson won Doubles Team of the Week for the third straight time. Senior Noelia Lorca took home Singles Player of the Week, her second weekly honor of 2025.

The doubles teams of Burger/Persson and Maria Castano/Clara Sobius both shined once again, claiming victories of 6-3 and 6-2, respectively. The duos are a combined 14-3 on the season. Burger/Persson haven't lost together since Feb. 2, riding a four-match win streak, and Castano/Sobius picked up their sixth win together. The win improved Castano to a strong 7-2 mark in doubles as a freshman. The Texans have won the doubles point in five straight matches, their longest such streak so far this season.

The Texans are 14-2 in singles in their three-match win streak. Junior Adeliya Mukhutdinova is coming off a 6-2, 6-3 straight sets win against ORU's Cecilia Franzin, improving her singles win streak to four.

Junior Ximena Morales heads into Thursday off two straight singles sweeps, both of which came in close margins (6-3, 6-4; 7-5, 6-4). The freshman Castano holds the team's strongest mark in singles at 8-2, also coming off a straight sets win at ORU (6-3, 6-3).

Lorca and Sobius found themselves on the win train despite losing their first set last Friday, each mounting a comeback to taste victory in singles.

Tyler Junior College enters Stephenville with a 2-4 record coming off two defeats over the weekend to Southern Arkansas (4-0) and St. Petersburg College (8-1). The Texans handled the Apaches 7-0 in each of their last two meetings in 2023 and 2024.

The match will be streamed on WAC International, and live stats will be available through iOnCourt.
