Tarleton State Tennis picks up fifth straight win with home victory over La Tech

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Tennis protected its home court again on Sunday and defeated a 10-win La Tech team 4-1 at the Tarleton Tennis Facility.

The Texans secured the doubles point once again and won three singles matches to claim its fifth consecutive victory in a row. Tarleton State remains undefeated in Stephenville with a 6-0 record.

After La Tech's No. 1 doubles team took home the victory, the Texans stepped up to take the doubles point for the sixth consecutive match. Senior Noelia Lorca and junior Ximena Morales cruised to a 6-1 win on Court 2 to improve their record to 5-1 on the season. The 6-3 win on Court 3 from junior Clara Sobius and freshman Maria Castano allowed the Texans to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Sobius/Castano picked up their seventh win of the season as a doubles duo.

La Tech looked to claw its way back into the match, capturing a straight sets win on Court 2 to start singles play. Tarleton State, however, responded with three consecutive singles victories.

Lorca, the reigning WAC Singles Player of the Week, won her second match of the week on Sunday. Following a close set one, Lorca dominated action in set two to pick up a 6-4, 6-1 straight sets win over La Tech's Nina Skoric on Court 3.

Performances from a pair of juniors allowed the Texans to leave singles victorious. Morales picked up her sixth singles win of the season, defeating Mari Tsironi 7-5, 6-3 on Court 4. The singles match on Court 6 ended up being the decider in the match thanks to junior Adeliya Mukhutdinova. The Boca Raton, Florida, native picked up her ninth win of the season and defeated Alice Brook in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. The singles matches from Castano and junior Emma Persson went unfinished.

"I'm very proud of this team today," head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said. "We had tough conditions with the cold, but the girls stepped up and fought the entire match. Noelia and Ximena were impressive all day today. They were focused in doubles and showed what they're capable of. That continued in singles with consistent effort from both of them.

"Adeliya took care of business for us and continues to improve match after match. It was a great team effort as we continue to improve in all positions."

Tarleton State wraps up its three-match homestand on Saturday when it takes on Northwestern State on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Tarleton Tennis Facility. Admission is free to all home Tarleton State Tennis matches.
