ACU defeats Tarleton State Tennis in last regular season match

ABILENE, Texas – Tarleton State fell short in the I-20 rivalry and lost to Abilene Christian 4-1 at the John T.L. Jones Tennis Building on Saturday.

The Texans finished the 2025 regular season with a 13-7 record and now awaits their seeding for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament next week in Arlington. Seeding will be based on ITA team rankings and the WAC will reveal the bracket early next week.

Tarleton State jumped out ahead first by clinching the doubles point with ease. Senior Noelia Lorca and Ximena Morales cruised on Court 1 6-1 while junior Clara Sobius and freshman Maria Castano won their ninth match together with a 6-2 win on Court 2. Lorca/Morales picked up their second doubles victory of the week and their eighth win of the season as a duo.

ACU, however, was quick to strike back. The Wildcats took singles Court 1 and Court 4 to take a 2-1 lead in the match, winning the first set on five of the six singles courts.

The Texans refused to quit, with Morales and junior Adeliya Mukhutdinova forcing a third set after dropping the opening set on their respective courts. ACU managed to get the final two points needed to clinch the match with wins on Courts 5 and 6. Lorca and Morales were ahead in the third set before the match was called.

Tarleton State looks for its first WAC team title at the WAC Tournament in Arlington starting Thursday at the UTA Tennis Center. The Texans' match day, time and opponent is to be announced.
