Tarleton State Softball heads to the northeast for three-game tilt with Providence

The Texans look to set their new Division I record for wins after tying their previous best of 31 on Wednesday with an 8-4 win over UTSA

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After tying the programs Division I record for wins on Wednesday with an 8-4 win at UTSA, the Texans are headed north for a three-game series with Providence Friday-Saturday.
 
In the last 21 games the Texans have outscored their opponents 116-53 averaging over five-and-a-half runs per game. Across the 21 matchups, Tarleton State has scored five or more runs 11 different times.
 
Through almost 12 weeks of play, the Texans have multiple athletes leaving their mark nationally. Austin German currently leads the nation in doubles with 21 on the season. With her 21 doubles through 45 games, she ranks second in doubles per game in the nation and leads the WAC. With all the offensive power from Germain, she is the eight toughest to strike out in the nation as she strikes out just once every 48.7 plate appearances. Germain sits 31st in the nation in batting average hitting .445 and sits No. 3 in the WAC.
 
Other Texans top in the nation include Kalyn Hill who has caught 17 base runners stealing which puts her eighth in the nation and leads all of the WAC. Hill also sits 80th in the nation in batting average hitting .416 and is fourth in the WAC.
 
On the pitching side of things, Shelby Schultz continues to pound the strike zone as she sits 27th in the nation in strikeouts with 149 thus far and leads the WAC. She also ranks 25th in strikeouts per seven innings at 8.8 and leads WAC. Schultz also sits 18th in the nation in strikeout-to-walk ratio.
 
In the WAC, the Purple and White continue to hold two of the top-four spots in batting average as Germain leads the Texans ranking third in the conference hitting .445 while Hill sits fourth hitting .416. As a team, Tarleton State is in the top-three of 20 different statistical categories in the WAC. The Texans lead the WAC in team strikeouts per seven innings (6.86) and walks (181). The Purple and White sit No. 2 in the WAC in doubles (74), doubles per game (1.51), home runs (42), home runs per game (0.86), on base percentage (0.384), RBI (234), shutouts (6), strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.37), total runs (251), WHIP (1.43) and WL Percentage (0.633).
 
First pitch on Friday is set for 2 p.m. CT and 4:30 p.m. CT. The series finale is set for an 11 a.m. CT first pitch Saturday. The series will air live on FloCollege and live stats will also be available.
