STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Following a run to the WAC Tournament title game in the Texans' first season of postseason eligibility, head coach
Mark Cumpian announced the signing of Abigail Dowell on Wednesday.
Dowell comes to Stephenville after a pair of seasons with the Boise State Broncos.
The Iowa Park, Texas, native, appeared in 65 games for the Broncos across her two years in the pacific northwest. While most of her appearances came via relief efforts, she did make 20 starts in the circle. With 65 appearances in the books, she tallied up over 150 IP as she struck out 62.
Her sophomore season she led the team in appearances with 38, 13 of those being starts. She picked up nine wins and a team best four saves. During her collegiate debut season, the rock slinger made 27 appearances in the circle including seven starts for the Broncos. Across 10.2 IP vs. then No. 5 LSU and Houston, she recorded just a 1.31 ERA.
During her freshman campaign for Boise State, she was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week and was also named a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete. Dowell also was awarded Academic All-Mountain West in 2024.
Before she rode west for the Broncos, Dowell spent her high school days playing for Iowa Park High School. Dowell played all four years on varsity which included runs to the state semifinals her sophomore and junior seasons. In her sophomore season she was named Texoma Athlete of the Week in back-to-back weeks. During her junior campaign she struck out 193 on just a 1.00 ERA. She was also named the 4A MVP and 4A First-Team All-State in 2022.Her senior season she helped lead her team to a 31-7 record including the district title.
On the select side of things she played for Texas Glory for eight seasons. During that time, she helped lead her team to top finishes in both the 14U Top Gun Championship as well as the 14U Texas Glory Shootout.
