Tarleton State Tennis starts eight-match homestand against Weatherford College Thursday

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Tarleton State Tennis returns to the courts on Thursday at 2 p.m. as the Texans host Weatherford College at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility for the first of eight straight home matches.

Tarleton State is coming off a strong fall season, winning 99 matches to go with sweeping the WAC Fall Invitational titles. Sophomore Maria Castano (singles and doubles) and freshman Aya Ishii (doubles) earned the automatic bid to the ITA Conference Masters Championships in San Diego, where they picked up the program's first win at the event with a doubles victory against Richmond.

Freshman Marissa Minetti, who finished the fall ranked No. 111 in the country by ITA, was named the WAC Singles Player of the Week on Tuesday. The award gives Minetti her first weekly honor of her collegiate career. She was named WAC Singles Player of the Month in September 2025.

Minetti posted an undefeated 1-0 record last week, defeating Wyoming's Serina Abriola 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles last Thursday. The win marked her first victory in spring competition and forced a winner-take-all contest on Court 3. She was the only Texan to post a perfect singles record last week.

The match marks the season opener for Weatherford College, which finished last year with a 7-8 overall record and a 3-6 mark in away matches. Tarleton State enters the contest with early season experience after facing Wyoming and nationally ranked No. 6 Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma last week.

The Texans hold a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series against Weatherford College. The teams last met in March of 2023, when Tarleton State captured all the points in singles and doubles to earn a 7-0 victory.

Tarleton State most recently competed against Wyoming in a closely contested 4-3 loss. The Texans secured one doubles victory as seniors Emma Persson and Clara Sobius earned a 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. In singles action, Ishii, senior Ximena Morales, and Minetti each recorded straight-set victories.

Following the Wyoming match, Tarleton State went head to head with No. 6 Oklahoma. The Sooners claimed a 4-0 win, though multiple matches remained unfinished as the Texans continued to battle across the lineup.

The Texans look to build off a strong 2025 campaign, who finished 13-8 and went undefeated at home with a 7-0 mark. Tarleton State ended the 2025 campaign as WAC Semifinalists.
