Tarleton State FAR Faulkenberry appointed to FARA Executive Committee, 1 of 17 members nationwide appointed

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State's Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Eileen Faulkenberry has been appointed to the FARA Executive Committee, one of 17 members nationwide to be appointed.

The FARA Executive Committee is the governing body of the Faculty Athletics Representatives Association (FARA). The committee has representation from each NCAA division, plus representatives from the NCAA Division I Council and NCAA Division II Management Council.

"Faculty Athletics Representatives are an essential bridge connecting both the athletic and academic aspects of the student athlete experience," Faulkenberry said. "I am looking forward to helping shape the national discussion and strengthening the role of Faculty Athletics Representatives in supporting student-athlete success."

FARA had its genesis in the mid-1980s when a group of FARs initiated a series of forums. The purpose of these forums, which were held in conjunction with the annual NCAA Convention, was to provide for discussion of issues that were of concern to the NCAA membership. The committee, which included representation from NCAA Divisions I, II and III, produced the first of what has become a continuing series of reports that are distributed to the NCAA membership to promote an understanding of the academic impact of proposed legislation. The work of the task force reached its culmination in 1989 in the ratification of the bylaws of a new national organization for FARs. This organization, FARA, was designed to promote greater cohesion among FARs and to enhance their usefulness within the NCAA and at their respective institutions.

Faulkenberry is in her eighth year as the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) for Tarleton State Athletics. Her role as the FAR includes ensuring the academic integrity of the intercollegiate athletics program and enhancing the student-athlete experience at Tarleton State University. Faulkenberry is in her 14th year at Tarleton State, where she serves as the Dean of the Honors College and Professor of Mathematics, and her 24th year as a professor in the Texas A&M University System.
