Tarleton State Volleyball secures Saturday sweep, handles ACU at home

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Volleyball got back to its winning ways, sweeping in-conference rival Abilene Christian 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-19) on Saturday at Wisdom Gym.

Tarleton State (7-12, 3-3 UAC) collected a season-high .404 attacking percentage over Abilene Christian (12-6, 4-2 UAC). The Texans hit .400 in a match for the first time since Aug. 29, 2025.

Fifth year outside hitter/opposite Madison Rice-Locket collected her fourth double-double of the season, leading the Texans in kills with 13 to go with 12 digs. Setters Alexis Massey (18) and Peyton Fadal (17) once again had double-digit assists while libero Leddy Rae Guinn came up with 21 digs.

The Texans came out of the first set firing and never looked back. After beginning the match on a 5-0 scoring run, Tarleton State rallied five straight points again to take an early 13-4 advantage. Kills from middle blocker Alyssa Dinh and opposite Breannah Peterson allowed the Texans to go up by double-digits entering the media timeout.

A 6-1 scoring run allowed ACU to cut the deficit and stay alive in the first set. Tarleton State, however, maintained momentum and ended the opening frame on a 3-0 scoring run to take set one 25-16.

Tarleton State continued to stay in front in the second set thanks to a 3-0 scoring run, with another kill by Peterson putting the Texans ahead 13-9. After the Texans used three straight points to extend the lead, ACU scored back-to-back points to make it a two-point set. The Texans answered with four straight points to set up set point, with a service error by ACU capping off the frame to give Tarleton State a 25-19 set two win.

ACU started out strong in the third set, opening with a 3-0 scoring run and later going up 7-3 later in the set. After a kill from ACU's Alexis Strong, the Texans went on a tear. Tarleton State scored seven of the next eight points in the third set to take a one-point lead.

Strong responded with another kill to make it a one-point set, but the Texans answered with three consecutive points. ACU once again made it a one-point set thanks to a 3-0 scoring run, but the Texans again responded with a run of their own. Tarleton State scored three straight points and later scored four of the next five points to make it a match point.

A kill from ACU didn't slow the Texans down, with senior middle blocker Madison Frank getting the final kill for her team to make it a 25-19 set three win and complete the sweep. The Texans capped off the third set with a .458 attacking percentage.

Tarleton State goes on the road for three straight road matches starting Thursday, traveling to Little Rock for a 6 p.m. showdown.
