STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Softball will keep its momentum going in this opening home stretch with the annual Texan Classic on Thursday-Sunday.
The tournament will welcome the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes, the Pitt Panthers, the Army Black Knights, and the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders.
The Texans start their weekend off on Thursday with a doubleheader against Tulsa. First pitch will take place at 3 p.m. with the second game immediately following at approximately 5:30 p.m. Tarleton State has only played Tulsa once before, dating back to March 3, 2023, where the Texans fell 8-0 at Tulsa.
The Purple and White will follow up on Friday with two more games against Pitt (2:30 p.m.) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (7:30 p.m.). This marks the fifth and sixth all-time meeting with the Islanders. The Texans are currently 1-3, winning their last matchup 5-4 in 2022.
Action will continue on Saturday with one game against Army at 5:30 p.m. TSU will face off against Pitt and Army for the first time in program history.
The Texan Classic will wrap up on Sunday with a second game against the Islanders with first pitch set for 12 p.m.
Tarleton State Softball started their 2026 season 9-1, earning their second-best start through 10 games in the D1 era. In their first game against Colgate, the Texans set a new program record of 21 hits, beating their previous record of 20 hits set in 1997 and 2004. The Texans also scored a record-setting 53 runs during their season-opening weekend at the Runnin' Bulldog Classic, marking the most runs scored in opening weekend since 2017, the second-most all-time runs through the first five games and the most in the D1 era through the first five games.
Texan softball is currently on the national radar. As of Feb. 17, the Texans were nationally ranked top five in seven different statistical categories, including 3rd in both runs and RBI behind SEC schools Oklahoma and Florida. Hayden Fox was leading the nation in runs (20), ranked second in on base percentage (.730), tied for second in runs per game (2.00), and ranked ninth in batting average (.600). Mikayla Wilson and Mariah Debose were each tied for first in different categories, with Wilson leading in hits (20) and Debose leading in triples (3).
Texan Classic tournament passes and single-day passes are available for purchase at www.tarletonsports.com/tickets. An all-tournament pass is $40 for reserved seats and $30 for general admission. There are also single-day passes available, priced at $30 for a single-day in reserved seating, and $20 for a single-day in GA.
