ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Tarleton State Softball is back on the road again this week for the UNM Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The tournament field includes the Houston Christian Huskies, the UTEP Miners, and tournament host New Mexico Lobos.
The Texans will start the weekend off on Friday with their lone matchup against Houston Christian at 11 a.m. CT, marking the fifth meeting between the two programs. Tarleton State claimed the most recent matchup, 10-2, on Feb. 14, 2025. The Purple and White will then face host New Mexico at 6:30 p.m. CT.
On Saturday, Tarleton State takes on UTEP at 1:30 p.m. CT. before wrapping up the day with its second contest against the Lobos at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Texans are currently 1-1 against the Lobos, winning their last matchup 2-0 on Feb. 23, 2025.
Tarleton State concludes tournament play Sunday with a 10 a.m. CT. matchup against the Miners. UTEP claimed the last meeting between the two teams, 5-2, back in 2023.
The Texans have also gained national attention early this season. As of Feb. 17, the Texans were nationally ranked top five in seven different statistical categories, including third in both runs and RBI behind SEC schools Oklahoma and Florida. Hayden Fox was leading the nation in runs (20), ranked second in on base percentage (.730), tied for second in runs per game (2.00), and ranked ninth in batting average (.600). Mikayla Wilson and Mariah Debose were each tied for first in different categories, with Wilson leading in hits (20) and Debose leading in triples (3).
