Tarleton State Tennis returns home for Friday afternoon match with App State

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Tennis comes back to the Tarleton State Tennis Facility to face App State at 1 p.m. on Friday.

The Texans have won six out of their last seven matches, posting an undefeated 5-0 home record thus far. Tarleton State has won its last 16 home matches dating back to the 2023-24 season.

After dropping a tightly-contested match to an undefeated South Alabama team last Saturday, the Texans quickly got back to their winning ways the following day. The Texans dominated Northwestern State 4-0 to pick up their first road win of the season on Sunday.

Freshman Aya Ishii and senior Emma Persson are shining for the Texans entering Friday's match, winning WAC Doubles Team of the Week honors on Tuesday. Ishii and Persson won their first match as a doubles duo on Sunday against Northwestern State. They helped the Texans clinch the doubles point and obtain Tarleton State's first road win of 2026. Their weekly award marked the third consecutive WAC Doubles Team of the Week honor for the Texans.

Ishii picked up her seventh doubles win of the season while Persson won her fourth match in doubles in 2026. Ishii, a freshman from Tochigi, Japan, also leads the Texans in singles wins with a 7-1 record in her spring debut season. She has won 14 straight sets, picked up three bagels and has not lost a singles set since Jan. 15.

App State is currently 3-5 in the spring, but has challenged itself with a difficult non-conference schedule. After opening at No. 3 nationally-ranked North Carolina, the Mountaineers competed against two more Power 4 teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference. App State dropped a pair of close matches 3-4 before losing at Wake Forest on Sunday.

The 2025 UTR NIT Championship qualifiers are led by Savannah Dada-Mascoll in singles, who enters Stephenville with a 6-1 record. Dada-Mascoll also collected a Power 4 win at No. 1 singles earlier this year, defeating Ozlem Uslu from Virginia Tech in three sets. Dada-Mascoll and Taya Powell lead App State, having a 4-2 record in 2026.

Live scoring will be available through Stat Broadcast and a live video stream through Sporfie. Admission to all Tarleton State Tennis matches at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility are free to attend.
