Tarleton State Tennis begins five-match road trip Sunday at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO – Tarleton State Tennis starts a five-match road trip on Sunday, playing at UTSA at 2 p.m. at the UTSA Tennis Center.

The Texans have won seven out of their last eight matches, posting an undefeated 6-0 home record thus far. Tarleton State has won its last 17 home matches dating back to the 2023-24 season.

Tarleton State is coming off a 4-3 come-from-behind victory on Friday against App State, a 2025 UTR NIT Championship team. After the Mountaineers clinched the doubles point and two of the first three singles matches, the Texans picked up three consecutive singles victories to complete the comeback. Seniors Adeliya Mukhutdinova, Emma Persson and Ximena Morales along with freshman Dariia Medviedieva all picked up singles wins for the Texans in Friday's match.

Freshman Aya Ishii and Persson are shining for the Texans entering Friday's match, winning WAC Doubles Team of the Week honors on Tuesday. Ishii and Persson won their first match as a doubles duo on Sunday against Northwestern State. They helped the Texans clinch the doubles point and obtain Tarleton State's first road win of 2026. Their weekly award marked the third consecutive WAC Doubles Team of the Week honor for the Texans.

Ishii picked up her seventh doubles win of the season while Persson won her fourth match in doubles in 2026. Ishii, a freshman from Tochigi, Japan, also leads the Texans in singles wins with a 7-2 record in her spring debut season. She has won 14 straight sets, picked up three bagels and has not lost a singles set since Jan. 15.

UTSA enters Sunday's match with a 5-5 record, winning Friday's match against SFA 4-0. The Roadrunners also have wins over Sam Houston, New Mexico State, Incarnate Word and St. Mary's (TX). Tarleton State put up a valiant effort against the American Athletic Conference members in the two's last meeting in 2025 at the UTSA Tennis Complex, but the Roadrunners defeated the Texans 4-3.
