STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Women's Tennis will host their second and third tennis match for the spring season on Friday against Oral Roberts University and Collin County Community College starting at 12 p.m. at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility.
The Texans started 2026 off strong, earning a win in their home opener against Weatherford College. The Texans did not lose a single set at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility, earning a 7-0 victory.
The senior doubles duo of Emma Persson and Clara Sobius did not drop a game to open up the match. Senior Ximena Morales and sophomore Maria Catano followed to hold up the match by earning a doubles point with their win on Court 1. Finally, the freshman duo of Marissa Minetti and Aya Ishii, sealed the match with their doubles victory to complete the sweep. Sobius dominated her singles match, losing only one game to put the Texans up by two points.
"It's exciting to be back on our home court, and this was a great way to get our string of home matches started," head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said following the win. "I knew our team was going to fight and be competitive. The girls definitely showed up and played very well today."
The Texans ended their 2025 fall tennis season with a combined record of 31-4 in singles and doubles. At the UIW Fall tournament, the Texans won all but three singles matches at the Mabry Tennis Center and only dropped one doubles match that entire weekend.
After ending the fall season strongly, assistant coach Abigail Wild added, "They showed how tough we can be both as individuals and as a team. We represented Tarleton State's high standards and look to carry that in the spring season."
Minetti clinched the WAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week honor on Jan. 15 following the first week of the spring season. Minetti was the only Texan to post a perfect singles record through the first two matches in the opening week.
The Texans defeated Oral Roberts 6-1 in 2025in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Texans dominated, winning two of three doubles matches to take an initial point and securing five of six singles victories. The NCAA Division I Oral Roberts ended its 2023-24 season with an overall record of 9-12 and a Summer League conference record of 4-2.
On January 25th, 2025, the Texans secured a clean sweep against Collin College at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility with a 7-0 victory. Competing in NJCAA Region 5, Collin College ended their 2024-25 season with a 6-18 record.
