Tarleton State Tennis sweeps home doubleheader to start February

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Tennis did not lose a point in Friday's doubleheader at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility, defeating Oral Roberts 5-0 and Collin County Community College 7-0.

Tarleton State only dropped one set through the first two matches and has not lost a point since Jan. 15. The Texans have now won 14 straight home matches dating back to the 2023-24 season.

Freshman Aya Ishii picked up a pair of singles wins, one each at the top two singles spots. Ishii also won both of her doubles matches with fellow freshman Marissa Minetti. Senior Ximena Morales also picked up two singles wins and combined for two bagels (6-0 set) on Friday.

"I thought we responded very well after being off from play last weekend," head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said. "It's a challenge when you have matches against good opponents that you don't get to play, but the weather is out of our control. We did a good job of picking up right where we left off and everyone contributed to our two wins. Sunday's match against McNeese is going to be a good test for us."

Match 1 vs. Oral Roberts (5-0)
After a dominating match on Court 1 from sophomore Maria Castano and Morales, the freshmen duo on Court 2 jumped out to an early 5-2 lead. Oral Roberts, however, won two straight games to cut the margin 5-4. Ishii and Minetti clinched the following game to give the Texans the doubles point and the lead.

Needing just three singles wins to clinch the match, the Texans got what they needed and then some. The Texans came up with four singles wins to open the doubleheader in victory.

Ishii continued her winning ways by dominating action on Court 2. The freshman from Japan collected a bagel in the first set and only lost one game in set two to win 6-0, 6-1. Castano followed suit with her usual singles victory at No. 1 singles, defeating Miranda Noor 6-1, 6-2.

Sophomore Duru Kuscu picked up her second singles win of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 decision on Court 6 to give the Texans the clinching point. Morales finished at the same time on Court 4 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Natalie Perez.

Match 2 vs. Collin County CC (7-0)
The Texans dominated doubles, only losing four games combined off the three courts. Morales and senior Adeliya Mukhutdinova collected the bagel on Court 2 and defeated Emma Garcia and Camila Luzardo. Victories from Ishii/Minetti and the senior duo of Clara Sobius and Emma Persson put the Texans in the driver's seat entering singles.

A pair of Texans obtained their first singles victories of 2026 in the second match of the doubleheader. Mukhutdinova came up with a bagel on Court 5 and dominated action for a 6-0, 6-1 win. Freshman Dariia Medviedieva edged out Nao Watanabe in the tiebreak on Court 6, winning 6-2, 6-7, 11-9 for her first collegiate dub of 2026.

Minetti and Ishii also picked up wins on their respective singles courts, with Ishii collecting a bagel in the second set at No. 1 singles. Persson and Morales each obtained a bagel en route to their singles wins, with Persson's coming in the first set and Morales' coming in the second.

Tarleton State continues its homestand on Sunday against McNeese at 10 a.m. at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility. McNeese is led by former Tarleton State assistant coach Sonia Carlson. Admission to all Tarleton State home tennis matches are free.
