North Texas hands Tarleton State Tennis first home loss

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – North Texas snapped Tarleton State Tennis' 18 home match win streak on Friday, defeating the Texans 4-1 on Friday at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility.

The Mean Green, who currently have the third-most wins in the American Conference with 16, handed the Texans' first loss at home since the 2023-24 season. Ironically, North Texas was the last team to beat the Texans in Stephenville before the home win streak began.

Tarleton State's seniors did not lose a match on their Senior Day to lead the Texans on Friday. Seniors Ximena Morales and Emma Persson picked up their 10th win as a doubles duo with a 6-1 win on Court 2. Persson also obtained her 11th singles win of the season, defeating Marina Adati in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 on Court 3.

"The level of tennis was quite high and the seniors really carried us today," head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron said. "I'm really proud of our four seniors and what they have brought to the team for four years. Their level of tennis and their level of commitment really showed today. It was fun to be on the court with them and it was fun to watch them compete. I'm proud of what they did today."

North Texas struck first with a pair of doubles wins on Court 1 and Court 3 to take a 1-0 lead. A straight sets win on Court 2 to start singles allowed the Mean Green to take a two-point lead. Persson, however, kept the Texans in the match with her singles win.

The Mean Green needed just one more point to clinch the match after picking up a straight sets win at No. 1 singles. Morales showed the senior fight, edging Lilly Schultz in the first set tiebreak at No. 4 singles to take the first set. Freshman Marissa Minetti also kept the Texans alive, forcing a third set at No. 5 singles.

North Texas, however, got the clinching point by securing the second set tiebreak at No. 6 singles to get the 4-1 win. Morales' and Minetti's match went unfinished.

Tarleton State Tennis' regular season finale will take place on Saturday at the Tarleton State Tennis Facility at 11 a.m. Early arriving fans will receive a free drink courtesy of Douglas-Miron.
