DENTON, Texas – Tarleton State Softball dropped a midweek non-conference matchup on the road Wednesday, falling 8-2 to North Texas at Lovelace Stadium. The Texans moved to 31-18 overall on the season.
North Texas struck first in the opening inning, using a solo home run to take an early 1-0 lead.
The Texans evened things up in the top of the second when Isabella Bojkovic launched a solo home run to center field, tying the game at 1-1.
The Mean Green regained control in the bottom half of the fourth. After a leadoff walk, North Texas connected on a two-run home run to left field to take a 3-1 advantage.
Tarleton State responded in the fifth to cut into the deficit. Mariah Debose reached on a fielder's choice and moved into scoring position before Mikayla Wilson delivered an RBI single up the middle, making it a 3-2 game.
North Texas broke the game open in the bottom of the inning with a five-run frame. The Mean Green strung together multiple hits, including an RBI single and RBI double, before a three-run home run capped the inning and extended the lead to 8-2.
Tarleton State was unable to generate a comeback over the final two innings, as North Texas closed out the game with a scoreless sixth and seventh.
Abigail Dowell took the loss after allowing three runs over three innings of work. Alex Aguilar and Sadie Beck combined to cover the middle innings, while Gracie Riney tossed a scoreless sixth inning in relief.
The Texans were limited to four hits on the day, highlighted by Bojkovic's solo home run and Wilson's RBI single. Braylin Pannill and Addison Wittram also recorded hits for the Purple and White.
Tarleton State will return to conference play this weekend as the Texans welcome Utah Tech in their final home series of the season. Texan Softball will also honor their graduating seniors with Senior Day on Saturday.
