Tarleton State earns 2-seed in WAC Softball Tournament, starts postseason run Thursday

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State has earned the 2-seed in the WAC Softball Tournament, and the Texans will start their postseason run on Thursday at 1 p.m., the WAC announced on Saturday night.

The Texans finished 13-5 in conference play and 35-21 in the regular season, their most overall wins in a regular season in their NCAA Division I era and their most since 2019 (38). This is the second straight year the Texans enter the WAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed. Last year, Tarleton State advanced to the WAC Tournament Championship.

The WAC Softball Tournament will be hosted by the Texans in Stephenville this upcoming week. The Texans will receive a first round bye and will face either 3-seed UT Arlington or 6-seed Utah Tech on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Tarleton State Softball Complex.

It is a double-elimination tournament, set for May 6-9, Wednesday-Saturday. If the Texans win their opener on Thursday, they will advance to the WAC Tournament Semifinals, and play on Friday at 12 p.m. If they were to win that, they would advance to the WAC Tournament Championship on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Six out of the Western Athletic Conference's seven times made the postseason tournament. California Baptist is the 1-seed, Tarleton State is the 2-seed, UT Arlington is the 3-seed, Utah Valley is the 4-seed, Southern Utah is the 5-seed, and Utah Tech is the 6-seed. Abilene Christian is the odd team out and did not make the WAC Tournament.

This year's WAC Softball Tournament will be the first conference tournament Tarleton State will host in its NCAA Division I era. Tickets are now on sale for the four-day event. All-session passes are just $30 that cover the full four-day tournament, which will be at least 10 games, possibly 11. All-day passes for a singular day of games are each $12. All tickets are general admission only.

There will be two games on May 6 (3 p.m., 6 p.m.), four games on May 7 (10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m., 7 p.m.), three games on May 8 (12 p.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m.) and the championship on May 9 at 1 p.m., with a potential rematch at 4 p.m. if necessary.

This is the final WAC Softball Tournament in the storied conference, with the alliance and rebranding of the WAC into the United Athletic Conference.
