Tarleton State Tennis hires Ekaterina Vorobeva as new assistant coach

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton State Tennis has added Ekaterina Vorobeva as its new assistant coach, head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron announced.

Vorobeva, a former top 100 player in Russia, joins the Texans after spending the last four seasons at UTRGV.

"I'm excited to welcome Coach Vorobeva to our program," Douglas-Miron said. "Her passion for developing student-athletes and deep knowledge of the region will be invaluable as we continue to build a competitive and supportive team culture.

"Kate brings exactly what we need at this moment. The new conference is going to be tough and her energy, tennis expertise, and understanding of our competitive landscape will be essential as we navigate the UAC. I'm confident she'll make an immediate impact on our student-athletes, and we're excited to have her on board."

Vorobeva served as an assistant coach at UTRGV for both the men's and women's tennis programs from 2022-26. She helped UTRGV move on an upward trajectory on the court and academically.

Before arriving at UTRGV, Vorobeva was captain of the Northwood women's tennis team and served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She attended and played tennis for Savannah State University for two years before transferring to Northwood, where she earned a Bachelor and Master of Business Administration.

During the 2021-22 season, Vorobeva went 19-3 in singles and 14-7 in doubles, winning 10 of her final 11 singles matches. With that streak, she became the first player in Northwood women's tennis history to win 20 consecutive sets in singles action. Vorobeva and her doubles partner, Iryna Trystan, finished the season ranked No. 9 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's NCAA Division II Midwest Region doubles rankings.

Vorobeva helped the ITA Midwest No. 8 Timberwolves go 15-7 overall and 7-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to claim the 2022 regular season conference co-championship. In 2020-21, she earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention honors and was an All-Academic Excellence recipient in 2020-21.

Prior to her collegiate career, Vorobeva was ranked No. 1 in her Republic and was a top 100 player in Russia from 2012-14.

The Texans turned into champions in 2025-26. Not only did Tarleton State win the 2026 Conference Championship without giving up a point, but the Texans also secured their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance at the Division I level. Tarleton State swept all major awards and returns 2026 Conference Player of the Year, Maria Castano, and 2026 Conference Freshman of the Year, Aya Ishii, in 2026-27.
