Biography

The Tarleton State University sports information office serves the purpose of keeping local and national media outlets, as well as other publics, informed about Tarleton athletics. The Tarleton sports information office is entering its fourth year under the direction of Joey Roberts.

In addition to overseeing the media relations and publicity efforts, Roberts and his staff are responsible for production of all publications and maintenance of the Tarleton Sports Online Web site, as well as compilation of statistical and historical information.

A native of Abilene, Texas, the 29-year-old Roberts came to Tarleton in August 2003 after serving three years as SID at Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo., a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

Roberts, who holds membership in the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), served in the sports information office at Abilene Christian University in Abilene for five and a half years before his stay at SBU.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in public relations/advertising, he worked on his master’s degree in digital media at ACU. He graduated in August 2005 with his master’s. Roberts has freelanced for several newspapers, including the Dallas Morning News, the Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Springfield News-Leader in Springfield, Mo.
