Biography
Gilkey arrives in Stephenville after spending last season at Weber State and two seasons at UTSA (2023-24). Last year, he started the first five games at quarterback before suffering a season-ending injury. Gilkey threw for 693 yards and four touchdowns, rushing for 227 yards and one more touchdown. He threw for 218 yards and a touchdown in Weber State’s win at McNeese, and followed that up with 185 yards passing and two touchdowns in the win over Butler. He also had 114 rush yards at McNeese, including a 50-yard touchdown run.

Gilkey did not appear in a game at UTSA, although he was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team in 2023. At the prep level, Gilkey was a two-time district MVP as the starting quarterback at Ennis High School. He finished his prep career with 5,725 yards and 51 touchdowns on 387-of-605 passing (.640), finishing second in the program’s passing record book behind Graham Harrell. He also rushed for 884 yards and 12 touchdowns on 155 attempts during his career. He was named the District 5-5A Division II Offensive MVP as a senior, throwing for 2,995 yards and 25 touchdowns on 214-of-349 passing, rushing for 602 yards and six scores in 2022 to lead the Lions to a bi-district title. He was named the 2021 District 8-5A MVP and First Team All-District. He threw for 2,490 yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior to help lead Ennis to an 11-1 record, a district title (7-0) and the area round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs. Gilkey was a three-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals and was a Texas Top 300 recruit and rated as the No. 10 QB in the class of 2023 by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
