Rivera spent his true freshman season at Memphis, redshirting without appearing in a game last year.
 
He played his prep football at Buford High School in Buford, Georgia, where he was ranked as a three-star recruit by 247 Sports and the No. 129 player in Georgia. He originally committed to Kansas before flipping his commitment to Memphis, with other interest by Tennessee, Texas, and others. Rivera was twice First Team All-Conference, helping Buford to the state championship in 2021 with a 14-1 overall record. He played all four years on varsity, with Buford winning a regional championship each season. He also played three years of varsity basketball and two years of varsity track and field.
 
Rivera, a Buford, Georgia, native, will major in business at Tarleton State University.
