Schmidt played last year at Golden West after a true freshman campaign at Minnesota Duluth in 2024. Last season, he was the Southern California Football Association Offensive Player of the Year, plus was First Team All-Conference. He was the team’s leading receiver, posting 1,183 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns on 61 receptions, averaging just under 100 yards per game (98.6). He closed the season with five 100-plus yard performances over his final six outings, posting a season-high 177 yards on nine receptions, with two touchdowns, against Cerritos on Oct. 25. He scored in nine games on the year, catching four touchdowns in a game against Ventura on Nov. 29, totaling 147 yards on 10 receptions. He ended the year with eight touchdowns over his final three games. Schmidt played in four games at Minnesota Duluth as a true freshman, making his collegiate debut on Sept. 21, 2024, at Mary, where he caught a 30-yard touchdown.
 
At Stillwater High School in Minnesota, Schmidt was a two-time All-Conference WR. He was the Metro East Offensive MVP his senior year. He set the school career receiving yards record and career receiving touchdowns record.
