Junior (2023-24):
Took the court in one game this season for four minutes ... He scored four points, and tallied a rebound ... Sawyer finished sixth on the team averaging 4.0 points per game in his lone contest of the year ... Made his Texan debut in the third game of the season against Sterling (KS) (12/12) ... Despite not qualifying for the official title, Sawyer was one of two players in the WAC to shoot 100 percent from the field in his two shots he took.

Trinity Valley CC (2022-23)
Played in 31 games for the Cardinals, averaging 8.7 points per game while shooting 53.4 percent from the field … Helped the Cardinals win the NJCAA Region XIV title before falling in the first round of the NJCAA D1 Men’s Tournament … Produced 13 double-digit scoring efforts … Scored a season-high 20 points in his first game as a Cardinal while adding seven rebounds and four steals.

Lousiana-Monroe (2020-21)
Played in 10 games totaling 73 minutes all off the bench ... He scored 10 points, grabbed nine boards, and dished off a pair of assists ... Scored a season-high three points against Grambling (12/16) ... Sawyer scored in five games.
 
Mesquite Horn HS
Played four years of varsity under head coach Ondra Waddy … Was named 11-6A most valuable player and a member of the Class 6A Region 2 team … He helped lead Horn to a 26-11 record, its first outright district championship and advance to its first regional quarterfinals in school history … He led the team in scoring at 17.6 points per game, shooting 63 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from 3-point range … Sawyer also recorded 4.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals per contest.

Born Zaakir Waseem Ahmed Sawyer on Oct. 9, 2001 … Parents Talance Sawyer and O’neika McCabe … Has three brothers Noble, Wise and Legend Sawyer … Also has three sisters Talanciana Harris, Kamarei McCabe and Amani Sawyer … His dad, Talance Sawyer played 39 games in the NFL for the Minnesota Vikings from 1999-2003 totaling 95 tackles, 11 sacks, five forced fumbles and an interception …  Graduated from Mesquite Horn in Mesquite, TX in 2020 … Played one year for Mudiuay Elite ... Was teammates with current NBA players Jonathan Kuminga and JT Thor ...  Intends to major in kinesiology.
