Dr. Matthew Maruska, DO, has served as the Head Team Physician for Tarleton State University since 2024. However, he has been involved in providing care to Tarleton State student-athletes since arriving in Stephenville in the summer of 2014 to work alongside Dr. Bill Evans with Cross Timbers Orthopedics.

Maruska also serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Tarleton State University. In addition to student-athletes, he sees all students for various family medicine issues and sports medicine injuries at Student Health Services as part of the University Health Center.

Maruska is from Taylor, Texas, and is a 1999 cum laude graduate of Texas A&M University, where he earned his BS in Biomedical Sciences. He was a science teacher and coach for Lubbock ISD before returning to school to earn his medical degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010, an affiliate of UNT Health Sciences Center in Fort Worth. He completed his family medicine residency in Waco, Texas, in 2013. Maruska then went on to complete a sports medicine fellowship at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa in San Antonio.

He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with an emphasis in sports medicine, and has extensive experience as a team physician for UIW, UTSA, Ranger College, and multiple area high schools.

Maruska and his wife, Kendi Kieschnick, have three children. Their oldest, Tate, attends Tarleton State and is a current member of the Texan Football Team.
