Gee Lawler has joined Tarleton State Women’s Basketball’s staff as an Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator, head coach Bill Brock announced.

Lawler, a former student-athlete and coach for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, helped the Islanders to a pair of Southland Conference championships. She will work with Texan post players and oversee the program’s recruiting efforts.

“We are so excited to have Coach Gee join our Texan Family,” Brock said. “She brings valuable experience to our coaching staff as a collegiate player, assistant coach, and recruiting coordinator. Our players will definitely benefit from her knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication to the game of basketball. Coach Gee’s contacts in recruiting along with her contagious smile and positive energy will have an immediate impact on the Women’s Basketball Program at Tarleton State University.”

Lawler was key to helping the Islanders win 18 games in her first season as a player, which included 12 conference wins. Serving as a team captain in her senior season, Lawler won the ESPN Classroom Champion recognition and was named to the SLC Academic All-Conference Team. She also served as a SAAC representative for the women’s basketball program.

Joining the Islanders’ coaching staff in 2021, Lawler was elevated to Recruiting Coordinator prior to the 2023-24 season. While on staff, she helped lead A&M Corpus-Christi to 23 wins en route to the program’s first-ever SLC Tournament title in 2024. Defeating No. 1 seed Lamar in the conference championship, A&M Corpus-Christi earned an automatic bid to March Madness and faced No. 1 nationally-ranked USC in the program’s first NCAA Tournament game.

Prior to her return to A&M Corpus-Christi, Lawler was an English teacher at Seguin High School while serving as the basketball and softball coach. Lawler earned Rookie of the Year honors in her first season as a coach while guiding her entire team to Academic All-District honors. She was instrumental in the development of All-District guards and the Newcomer of the Year, guiding four Academic All-State honorees over her last two seasons.

Lawler also worked with Kane’s Basketball AAU program, serving as the 14U head coach and 16U and 17U assistant coach.

“I am truly grateful and honored for the opportunity to serve with Coach Brock here at Tarleton State!” Lawler said. “He is a winner, strong leader and a visionary! I’m looking forward to pouring into our student athletes and being a part of an amazing staff! Tarleton State is a special place to be and I am thrilled to be a Texan!”
