Tarleton State Women’s Basketball head coach Bill Brock announced the addition of Jasmine Porter on June 4, 2026.
Porter brings a wealth of coaching experience and a deep basketball pedigree to the Texans.
Porter most recently served as an assistant coach at Utah Valley from 2024-26, where she contributed to the development of the team and supported a competitive program in the Western Athletic Conference. Under her guidance, Kylee Mabry was named WAC Co-Sixth Player of the Year, Tahlia White earned All-Defensive Team honors, and Cambree Blackham was selected to the WAC All-Freshman Team. Utah Valley also claimed its first postseason victory with a 70-64 win over Air Force in the opening round of the 2025 WNIT.
“I’m excited to add someone with Jasmine’s experience to our coaching staff for next season,” Brock said. “With Jasmine growing up in a coaching family, she understands the time commitment, daily grind, and work ethic that’s necessary to develop a quality basketball team. She will compliment our staff well and offer a new perspective that will assist our players on and off the court. We are glad Jas has chosen to become a member of the Texan Family and look forward to everyone meeting our newest staff member.”
Prior to Utah Valley, she was part of the coaching staff at Park University in Gilbert, Arizona, gaining valuable experience in player development and team strategy. She also served as an assistant coach at Montana Tech during the 2018-19 season.
In between her stints at the collegiate level, Porter was back in Utah coaching at the prep level. She was an assistant for Layton Christian Academy’s boys’ team from 2016-18 and again from 2021-22, winning three Utah State Championships. Porter was also an assistant at East High School (2019-20) and was the head girls coach at Bonneville High School in 2020-21.
As a player, Porter played collegiately at San Diego State and finished her career at Utah State. Porter was also a muli-time All-State selection at Layton Christian Academy, also leading the school to its first-ever volleyball state championship.
Basketball runs deep in Porter’s family. Her father, Bobby, won six state titles at Layton Christian and currently coaches at Sivers School of the Arts in Dayton, Ohio. At Layton Christian, Bobby produced a winning culture and helped the school win titles across three different classifications. He also worked at schools such as Salt Lake Christian Academy (UT), Northridge High School (UT), Dayton Christian Academy (OH), Dayton Belmont (OH), Dayton Dunbar (OH), and Dayton Roth (OH).
Her brother, BJ, is currently the head men’s basketball coach at Azusa Pacific in California. BJ also had coaching stints at the University of Denver, Utah Valley and Pepperdine, highlighting a family tradition of excellence in the game.
“I am extremely honored to join the women’s basketball coaching staff at Tarleton State University,” Porter said. “I’m excited to help develop student-athletes, build relationships, and contribute to a program committed to excellence on and off the court. I look forward to bringing my experience, passion and family’s coaching legacy to help our team reach new heights.”
