When the 2025-26 season begins, Michael Van Valkenburg will enter his fifth season at Tarleton State University and his first as Director of Eligibility. He spent the previous four seasons as the Assistant Registrar for Athletics Eligibility.
Van Valkenburg moved into the registrar role in November 2022 after spending the previous 17 months as an athletic academic coordinator.
During his time in academics, he served as the department’s tutor coordinator and assisted with the volleyball, women’s basketball, cross country, men’s golf, women’s soccer, and dance teams. He also served as the department’s tutor coordinator.
Van Valkenburg came to Tarleton State in March 2021 from Northwestern University where he served as an assistant academic advisor.
The Colorado native earned an undergraduate degree in recreation management from BYU-Idaho before heading to Northwestern for a master’s degree in sports administration. He now resides in Stephenville with his wife, Mollie. The couple has four children; two daughters, Oaklie and Maisie, and two sons, Hudson and Harvey.
