Tarleton announces Hall of Fame inductees

STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton State athletics department would like to announce the 2004 Tarleton State Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. Joining the Hall on Saturday, Oct. 2 will be Larry Aldridge, Lura Dunn Manley, Eric Lugo and Jim Moreno.

Aldridge lettered in men's basketball from 1960-64. In 1960-61, he recorded a 7.9 points per game average after scoring 182 points in 23 games. He also pulled down 25 rebounds during the season. Aldridge was the team's Co-MVP with Stanley Haedge in 1963 as a sophomore. He started 97 games in a row for Tarleton and at one time held the longest free-throw streak with 38 in a row. During his senior season, he averaged 13 assists and 17.7 points per game. According to Coach Donnie Campbell, Aldridge averaged 8.8 points, 10 assists and three rebounds per game in 1960-61. Aldridge also averaged 14.0 points, 12 assists and six rebounds per game in 1962-63.

Manley was a track and field star from 1983-86. At one time, she held the school record for the 100-meter dash (11.75 in 1983) and the 200-meter dash (25.00 in 1983). She won the school's Most Valuable Track Performer in 1984. In 1985, she won the 100-meter dash (12.24) at the Texas Intercollegiate Athletics Association conference meet and finished second in the 200-meter dash. In 1996, she was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash. She was named Freshman of the Year in the TIAA, and she won the 100-meter dash at the conference championships in 1983 as a freshman. She also took the 200-meter dash tape after setting the school and TIAA record in the preliminaries. Manley helped the TexAnns to four straight TIAA team titles and four straight TIAA 400-meter relay titles. They also won four straight 800-meter medley relay titles with her on the team. She is a graduate of Stephenville High School.

Lugo lettered in football as a Texan from 1987-90. He was named second team all-conference and academic all-conference as a junior. As a senior, he was named Offensive Most Valuable Player in the TIAA. Lugo earned NAIA National Player of the Week honors and was also the Outstanding Offensive Player in the playoff win over St. Mary of the Plains. In 1988, he threw 59 of 137 completions (.430) in nine games for 728 yards. He had a 12.3 yards per completion average, and he had six touchdowns and five interceptions that season. Lugo threw for 80.8 yards per contest as a sophomore. As a junior, he helped the Texans to a 9-3 record in 1989 after completing 114 of 221 pass attempts (.516) for 1,472 yards and eight touchdowns. He averaged 122.7 yards per game and threw 11 interceptions. Lugo also rushed for 105 yards in 1989. He led the Texans to an 11-1 mark in 1990 throwing for 2,399 yards and 20 touchdowns. Lugo completed 174 of 313 attempts (.556) and averaged 199.9 yards per game, while rushing 92 yards that season. He had seven 200-yard plus passing games in his career. Lugo is a graduate of Ballinger High School.

Moreno played in 29 games in 1988-89. He had a .449 shooting percentage from the floor and a .512 free throw percentage. Moreno pulled down 88 rebounds, an average of 3.0 per game. He averaged 5.6 points per contest. In the 1989-90 season, Moreno started 30 of 31 games for the Texans, averaging 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest. He had a .478 shooting percentage from the floor, including a .407 average from the three-point arc (35-86). He added a .674 free throw percentage and had 21 blocks and 40 steals, along with 81 assists. During the 1990-91 season, Moreno averaged 8.0 points and 3.7 rebounds for the Texans after starting 26 of 27 games he played. He had a .555 shooting percentage from the floor and a .667 free throw percentage. Moreno finished the 1991-92 season averaging 8.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game for the Texans. He started 33 of 34 games and had a .461 shooting percentage from the floor, a .391 percentage from the arc (43-110) and a .809 percentage from the charity stripe. Moreno is No. 12 on the school's all-time career rebounding list (489) and No. 12 on the all-time assist list (226). Moreno is a graduate of El Paso Eastwood High School.

The Hall of Fame, which debuted in 1980, already includes exactly 106 former Tarleton greats.
