McLEAN, Va. - Tarleton kicker
Garrett Lindholm and the Texans got a "Thumps Up" from
USA Today columnist Mike Lopresti in his column on the newspaper's web site Sunday for the 64-yard kick and the Texans' win in double overtime.
Tarleton, who won the playoff game at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday 57-56 in the second extended period when
Scott Grantham scored a 20-yard touchdown followed by a two-point conversion to end the game.
The overtime, though, was forced by Lindholm when he nailed a 64-yard field goal. The kick was the second longest field goal in NCAA Division II history and the longest in Tarleton school history.
Lindholm already set the school record with a 55-yard kick that tied the game against Midwestern State earlier in the year.
This is what the column said:
"Thumbs of the week:
Up to Garrett Lindholm. Who? Tarleton kicker boots 64-yard field goal as time expires to force overtime in playoff against Texas A&M-Kingsville, the second longest in Division II history. Tarleton wins 57-56 in the second overtime, gambling on a two-point conversion. Top that, big boys."
