STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton TexAnn basketball team will open-up the 2009-10 season at home on Tuesday, Nov. 17 against Texas-Permian Basin. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Wisdom Gym.

Tarleton finished the 2008-09 season 16-12 overall and 7-5 in the Lone Star Conference South Division and earned the school's sixth consecutive trip to the LSC Tournament under the direction of head coach Ronnie Hearne. The 16-12 record marked Hearne's fifth straight winning season after going 15-15 in his first season with the TexAnns.

Tarleton returns 11 letterwinners from last season's squad that includes JoAnne Jones, a second team all-LSC selection last year, as well as honorable mention honorees Sonya Sundberg and Shelby Adamson.  Also returning to the team are juniors Brittnie Haley and Kelsey Benford; along with sophomores Tori Skarke, Brittany Coleman, Morgan Stehling, Tara Towns and Lisa Parker. New to the team this season is junior transfer Shedera Bowman and incoming freshman Whitney McCorkle.

The TexAnns are 5-1 in season-openers under Hearne, with the team's only loss coming last season to Incarnate Word (77-53) in San Antonio. Hearne is a perfect 6-0 in home-openers, including a 3-0 mark when opening the season at Wisdom Gym against UTPB.

Tarleton leads the all-time series 6-0 against the Falcons. All of the victories came with Hearne at helm including two wins last season. The TexAnns won the first meeting 95-49 in Stephenville before downing UTPB 47-38 in Odessa. Adamson led the team with 15 points and five steals in the home victory. Sundberg dished out a team-high seven assists and Coleman led the team on the boards with six rebounds. A week later in Odessa, Adamson and Jones combined for 12 points each and Jones added eight rebounds and five blocks in the win.

Head coach Adam Collins is in his second season with the Falcons as he returns seven players, including three starters, from last year's team that went 7-19 overall. UTPB finished sixth in the Heartland Conference with a 5-9 record. Notable returners for the Falcons include Tammy Acosta (13.3 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 71 steals) and Callie Norris (10.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 24 steals). Acosta led the HLC with 147 assists (5.9/game) and was fifth in scoring with 13.3 points per game last season.

GAME NOTES
· The TexAnns were picked to finish second in the LSC South Division this season according to a preseason poll released by the league office in October.
· The TexAnns finished last season 10-4 at home and are 30-6 over the past three seasons inside the friendly confines of Wisdom Gym.
· JoAnne Jones had a team-high 54 blocks last season, the third most in a single-season and four blocks shy of tying the school record.
· Sonya Sundberg is scheduled to start in her 57th straight game for the TexAnns on Tuesday. She has started in all 56 games for the TexAnns over the past two seasons. She has 215 career assists heading into the 2009-10 season.
· Shelby Adamson will get to see her brother Braxton in action following the game when the Texans face Dallas Baptist in the night cap. Adamson led the TexAnns with 54 steals last season.
· Tori Skarke was second on the team in three-pointers made (34) last season. She returns with the best shooting percentage beyond the arc after connecting on .395 percent of her shots from downtown.
· Brittnie Haley will make her much-anticipated return to the line-up after sitting out the 2008-09 season rehabing an injury. She was averaging 11.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest before a knee injury in the 19th game sidelined her for the remainder of the 2007-08 season.
· Head coach Ronnie Hearne is in his seventh season with the TexAnns. He is 100-67 overall after collecting his 100th win against Angelo State last season in the regular season finale.
