Tarleton set to host 6th Annual Texan Tip-Off Classic

STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton Texan men's basketball program will host the sixth annual Texan Tip-Off Classic this weekend. Tarleton will play Texas A&M-International at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20 before facing Southeastern Oklahoma at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21. 
Angelo State is also playing in the tournament and will play SOSU at 5 p.m. on Friday and TAMUI on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Tarleton is coming off an impressive 81-71 win over Dallas Baptist on Tuesday. The Patriots returned four starters from last year's team that finished 24-7 and was a South Central Region semifinalist who beat Central Oklahoma last year in the first round of the regional tournament.
The Texans shot .438 in the game from the field, including a .375 mark from the arc, and Tarleton led by as much as 18 points in the contest. The only lead DBU had was by one point with 19:39 left in the first half. 
Tarleton was led by point guard Corin Henry with 21 points and six assists while Jeremiah Wilson also scored in double digits with 16 points, and the senior forward had nine rebounds to lead the squad with Donta Smith
Texas A&M-International is coming off a 70-58 season opening loss at home to Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Dustdevils were led in the contest by Christian Jones with 12 points and six rebounds. He was the only player in double figures for TAMUI.
The Dustdevils averaged .408 from the floor, .235 from the arc and .778 from the free throw line in the season opener.
Tarleton leads the all-time series 1-0 after Tarleton defeated TAMIU in the Texan Tip-Off Classic last season on Nov. 22, 83-67. Tyler Rushing led the team in that contest with 19 points while Effran Bryant had 10 and Wilson had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Southeastern Oklahoma, who will play ASU on Friday, will enter the weekend 0-1 on the season after a season opening loss at Southern Arkansas, 70-64.
SOSU was led in scoring by Chris Roussell with 13 points while Wiliam Slones and Jordan Lee each had 12 and Chibuzo Elonu had 10. Elonu led the team with 10 rebounds for a double-double.
The Savage Storm averaged .400 from the field, including a .222 mark from the three-point line and a .783 percentage from the foul line. 
Tarleton and SOSU have played 19 times while head coach Lonn Reisman has been on the bench for the Texans, and Tarleton is 14-5. The Texans have won the last 10 games, including a 68-47 win last season in Stephenville.
Friday night's game will be broadcast on Hard Country 89.7 FM by Jeremy Bryant while Saturday's game will be broadcast on KSTV 93.1 FM.
