TexAnns win third straight with 93-51 victory over WNMU

DENTON - Tori Skarke scored a game-high 19 points enroute to Tarleton's 93-51 win over Western New Mexico on Saturday as the TexAnns closed out out the DFW Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premeire at Kitty McGee Arena in Denton.

Tarleton went 2-0 in Denton over the weekend and improved to 3-0 to begin the season.  WNMU fell to 0-3 following the loss.

Tarleton jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Brittnie Haley's lay-up with less than a minute off the clock and then cruised to an 11-point lead when Skarke's lay-up dropped in with 15:29 left to play.  The TexAnns went on a 21-2 run over the next six and a half mintues to increase their lead to 34-6 with 8:48 left in the first-half.

Tarleton took a 24-point lead into the locker room at the half, up 48-24, and then scored the second-half's first six points to increase their lead to 30 points, up 54-24.  Later in the half, Lisa Parker hit a three-pointer with 11:13 left to play to give the TexAnns a 42-point lead, as Tarleton found themselves up 75-33.

Already up 87-44 with 2:58 remaining in the game, Morgan Stehling hit a jumper to give the TexAnns their largest lead of the day to go up by 45 points.  Tarleton finished the game on Kelsey Benford's jumper with 33 seconds left and came away with the 93-51 victory.

For the third straight game, Tarleton had four players in double-digits as Haley (13), Shelby Adamson (12) and Benford (12) each scored more than 10 points each.  Skarke had a team-high seven rebounds and Stehling tallied a team-high five assists on the afternoon.  Haley recorded four blocks and following the game was named to the all-tournament team.  She averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game over the two-day tournament.

Tarleton shot an impressive .557 percent from the field, while holding their opponent to to just .364 percent.  The TexAnns were just 1-of-9 (.111) from the three-point line in the first-half, but finished the game shooting .375 percent after hitting 5-of-7 from beyond the arc in the second-half. 

Tarleton had 38 points coming off the bench with Benford leading the way.

The TexAnns forced 25 turnovers and scored 37 points off of their opponents mistakes.  Tarleton recorded just nine turnovers on the afternoon for a new season-low.

WNMU had two players in double-digits on the afternoon as Krystal Davis and Ashley Vigil each finished the game with 12 points each.  Davis tallied a team-high seven rebounds as well.

Tarleton will return to Wisdom Gym this coming Tuesday, Nov. 24 to host Concordia.  The TexAnns will be signing autographs for all fans following the game.
