Texans set to host Wiley College after Thanksgiving

STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton Texan men's basketball team will return to action Saturday, Nov. 28 at home against Wiley College at 4 p.m.

The Tarleton Texans opened the 2009-10 season with a 3-0 record with wins over Dallas Baptist (81-71), Texas A&M-International (68- 50) and Southeastern Oklahoma (54-43). The Texans downed DBU, a South Central Regional semifinalist last season that returned four starters, in the season opener led by Corin Henry with 21 points and six assists. Jeremiah Wilson and Donta Smith each had nine rebounds to lead the squad while Wilson had three blocks.

In the win over the Dustdevils, Henry led the squad with 18 points and six assists while Wilson had eight rebounds to top the team. Wilson then led the Texans with 16 points in the win over SOSU while Smith had eight rebounds to lead Tarleton.

This season, Henry leads the team with a 14.7 points per game average while Wilson is second with 13.0 points per outing.  Wilson and Smith are tied with a 7.7 rebounds per game average, and Henry is second with 4.0 rebounds per contest. 

Henry leads the squad with 15 assists and seven steals while Wilson's four blocks is tops on the team.

The Texans averaged .446 from the floor, .407 from the three-point arc and .612 from the charity stripe while allowing opponents to hit just .381 from the field, .347 from the arc and .636 from the line. Tarleton is outrebounding foes 35.0 to 33.3 and outscoring them 67.7 to 54.7. Tarleton is averaging 2.3 blocks per game and 7.3 steals per game while having a plus-five turnover margin.

Wiley enters the contest 1-5 and is coming off a 60-58 loss at Xavier University of Louisiana. 

Alexander Cossey leads the squad with 12.3 points per game while Nathaniel Evans (11.5), Marquis Wright (11.2) and Harold Cleveland (11.2) are also averaging in double digits this season.  Evans is averaging a double-double with a team-high 11.5 rebounds per outing while Uros Pavlovic is second with 4.5 rebounds per game.

The Wildcats are averaging .398 from the field, .308 from the arc and .664 from the line while allowing opponents to shoot .421 from the floor, .327 from the arc and .673 from the stripe.  WC is averaging 70.83 points per game while giving up 73.40 points per contest to its opponents.

Saturday's game will be the first meeting between the two teams since head coach Lonn Reisman took over the program in 1988.  The Texans, however, have won 26 straight contests against opponents in either NCAA Division III or NAIA, dating back to an 83-80 loss at home to Texas Wesleyan on Dec. 30, 2000.  All of those 26 victories have come in Wisdom Gym.  Since joining NCAA Division II and the Lone Star Conference, the Texans are 55-5 against such foes, including a 52-4 record in Wisdom Gym.
