STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton Texan men's basketball team will open Lone Star Conference crossover action on Tuesday, Dec. 1 when it hosts Central Oklahoma at 8 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
Tarleton is 4-0 on the season after defeating Wylie College on Saturday, 90-47. Tarleton has started the season with a 4-0 record for the last four years and for the sixth time in the last eight seasons.
This season, Tarleton is led in scoring by
Corin Henry with 16.8 points per game while
Jeremiah Wilson is second with 11.0 points per contest.
Donta Smith leads the team in rebounding with 8.0 per game and Wilson is second with 7.0 boards per outing. Henry also leads the team with 22 assists and 11 steals while Wilson's six blocks tops the squad.
Tarleton is averaging .481 from the floor, .440 from the three-point arc and .571 from the charity stripe while allowing opponents to shoot just .356 from the field, .333 from the arc and .623 from the line. Tarleton is outrebounding foes 37.2 to 33.0 and outscoring them 73.2 to 52.8. The Texan starters are averaging 42.4 points per outing this season while the bench is contributing 30.8 points per game.
UCO enters the contest 2-2 overall with a double-overtime win against Emporia State and losses to Rockhurst and Missouri Western before winning at ESU on Nov. 23, 76-73. The Bronchos are scheduled to play Sciences and Arts of Oklahoma on Monday, Nov. 30 prior to coming to Stephenville on Tuesday.
Heading into the week, Shane Carroll leads the team with 20.5 points per game while Dauntae Williams (15.0), Chris Rhymes (13.0) and Eric Cazenave (11.5) are each averaging in double digits. Williams leads the squad with 7.0 rebounds per game and Tyler Phillips is second with 5.0 boards per outing.
The Bronchos are averaging .498 from the field, .429 from the three-point line and .685 from the free throw line while allowing opponents to shoot .506 from the floor, .470 from the arc and .611 from the stripe. UCO is being outscored 86.2 to 85.0 and outrebounded 34.0 to 33.2.
Tarleton is 6-2 in Lone Star Conference crossover openers since the 2001-02 season. However, Tarleton has dropped the last four contests to UCO, and the Texans' last win over the Bronchos was in Stephenville in overtime (73-70) on January 3, 2008. Tarleton trails in the all-time series, 14-10.
Tuesday is Tarleton Faculty/Staff Appreciation night where all will get in free with their Tarleton I.D. Tuedsay is also Scout Night where all local scouts will get in free by wearing their uniform.
The All-American Frisbee Dogs will be back for another entertaining halftime show at both the men's and women's game. The act was on the hit show America's Got Talent in its first season.
