STEPHENVILLE - The Tarleton TexAnn basketball team returns to the court this Tuesday, Dec. 1 with a home contest against No. 18-ranked Central Oklahoma. This will be the first Lone Star Conference crossover game for the TexAnns and the tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Wisdom Gym.
The TexAnns are coming off a 75-47 win over St. Edward's in Austin on Saturday, improving to 5-0 to begin the season, and head into Tuesday's match with the team's best start to a season since 2006-07. The 2006-07 squad began the season 6-0.
Tarleton will have their hands full on Tuesday though with UCO coming into town. The last time the TexAnns defeated a Bronchos team was that very 2006-07 season when Tarleton downed UCO, 68-54, back on Jan. 11, 2007 in Edmond, Okla. Since that time UCO has won four straight games and has managed to knock the TexAnns out of the first round of the LSC Postseason tournament in consecutive years. Tarleton dropped both contests by a combined seven points with both games coming down to the final seconds of play.
The Bronchos come into town with a 3-1 record and ranked No. 18 in the nation. UCO fell to Pittsburg State, 70-69, to open the season, but have won three straight since. The Bronchos defeated the University of Science and Arts, 78-55, in the team's last contest a week a go in Chickasha, Okla.
The Bronchos come in leading the all-time series 12-9. Although the TexAnns have won four of the last five games played in Stephenville.
The Bronchos are lead by the trio of Ashley Beckley (16.8 ppg, .532 FG%, 6.3 rpg), Christina Yarbrough (10.5 ppg, 17 assists, nine steals), and Jordan Stark (10.5 ppg, .391 (9-23) 3PT%). As a team, the Bronchos are shooting .415 percent from the field, .359 from downtown, and .737 from the charity stripe.
JoAnne Jones leads the TexAnns averaging 12.4 points per contest and a .596 shooting percentage from the field. She averages 6.2 rebounds per game and is second on the team behind
Brittnie Haley who averages 6.8 rebounds a game. Haley averages 10.0 points per game as well.
Sonya Sundberg leads the team with 22 assists and 12 steals. She and
Morgan Stehling are tied for the team lead with nine three-pointers made, but Sundberg is shooting a team-high .643 percent from beyond the arc.
Shelby Adamson's .923 percent from the free-throw line is a team-high as well.
The TexAnns are shooting .525 percent from the field, .447 percent from beyond the arc and .667 from the free-throw line.
