The
Lady Aggies of Cameron went up early on the TexAnns during game one
when left field Kelly Lentz scored on a Megan Young single. Amy
Ribble scored soon thereafter on a passed ball.
The
TexAnns were able to get back into the game with a big fourth
inning. Samantha Canfield got the crowd riled up when she hit a long home run to
left-center field. Catcher April Gonzalez then singled for the
TexAnns. Coach Julie Mata opted for a pinch hitter and replaced
outfielder Brandie Simmons with Jessica Scallan. A Scallan
single advanced Gonzalez to second. A Julie Norris double to
center then scored Gonzalez and advanced Scallan to third.
Kelly then singled, but an errant throw allowed her to advance to
third, scoring both Norris and Scallan. At the top of the
fifth, the TexAnns led 4-2.
Cameron
was able to tie the game up in the top of the fifth inning when Amy
Ribble scored on a Callie Schlatter sacrifice fly. Jenna Boren
later scored on an error by the TexAnn first basemen.
With
the game tied at 4 going into the bottom of the seventh, the TexAnns
needed one score to end the contest. Nicole Cone walked to
begin the inning and Coach Julie Mata once again chose to go with a
pinch-runner, selecting Amy Gabbert for the job. After a Tamra Bradley sacrifice bunt advanced Gabbert to second, a Brittany Terry
single through the left side advanced her to third. A left-side
single by Brittnee Rice scored Gabbert and ended the contest with
Tarleton on top 5-4.
Zearfoss
got the win for the TexAnns, giving up five hits and striking out
five batters. Zearfoss improves to 5-1 on the season with the
victory.
Tarleton
3, Cameron 2
A
low scoring affair, game two of the doubleheader ended as excitingly
as the first contest, not being decided until the final inning.
Tarleton
was the first to get on the board when Kelly scored on a Bradley
double.
Cameron
soon took back the lead, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth.
Jenna Boren walked to start the inning and Chelsey Jordan reached on
a fielder's choice. Boren was thrown out at second base. A Courtney
Clifford double scored two runs as Sherry
Tetreault and Jordan scored.
The
bottom of the seventh inning was once again the scene for theatrics
as the TexAnns scored the winning run in the bottom of the inning.
Norris tripled to right center to begin the inning and Kelly singled
up the middle. A sacrifice bunt from Nicole Cone advanced Kelly to
second. After Bradley walked to load the bases, a single to left
field from Brittany Terry scored Norris and ended the game.
Norris
got the win for the TexAnns, improving her record to 2-0 for the
young season. Norris pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits and
striking out one batter.
