STEPHENVILLE – The TexAnn basketball team will play their third road game of the season Thursday, Dec. 30 in San Antonio, as they take on the Rattlers of St. Mary's.
Tarleton is 7-1 on the year, and coming off a comeback victory over Texas Woman's University Monday, Dec. 20 and a 10-day layoff. They also have two wins on the road in as many attempts.
As a team, the TexAnns are shooting 41.9 percent from the field, 32.5 percent from deep, and 70.3 percent from the charity stripe. They are averaging 72 points per game, while allowing just 57.5 points per game to opponents. Tarleton can credit their defensive prowess to their +1.8 rebounding margin and +5.8 turnover margin.
Shelby Adamson is the TexAnns' leading scorer on the year, collecting 19.4 points per game, while averaging 4.1 rebounds, 3.63 assists and 2.9 steals per game. Morgan Stehling is adding 13.3 points per game and shooting 40 percent from three-point land, as Brittnie Haley contributes 10 points per game as well to go along with her 4.8 boards per game. Kiara Wright and Kelsey Benford split rebounding duties, averaging 6.9 and 6.7 rebounds per game respectively.
St. Mary's is just 7-5 on the year, but has protected their home court well with a 3-1 record in Bill Greehey Arena. The Rattlers average 56.4 points per game while giving up 56.6 points per game. Along with their -0.2 scoring margin, St. Mary's also suffers from a -0.7 turnover margin, averaging 20.3 turnovers per game.
Kristen Williams leads the way for St. Mary's, recording 11.8 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game, while Mareta Bailey adds 10.2 points and 5.3 boards a contest. The Rattlers have four more players that average over seven points a game, making for a balanced scoring attack.
Tarleton trails St. Mary's 1-9 in the all-time series, but the TexAnns will look to end 2010 on a positive note with a victory in San Antonio.
