LUBBOCK – Former Tarleton head football coach Sam McElroy has been named the defensive line coach at Division I Texas Tech. McElroy resigned from his position as the Texans skipper last Tuesday.
McElroy led the Texans to a 40-15 record over the last five seasons, and the Tarleton Athletics Department announced last week that he had left the position atop the Texan program to take a Division job. On Tuesday, Texas Tech announced the Corsicana native would coach at the Big 12 member.
For more information on McElroy's success at Tarleton, and his career, see the release from last Tuesday.
Tarleton athletics director Lonn Reisman said a national search is underway for McElroy's replacement. In the meantime, defensive coordinator Cary Fowler has been named the interim head coach.
