EDMOND, Okla. – The Tarleton TexAnn softball team will return to action on Friday, March 19 at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader at Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla. The games were scheduled to take place on Saturday, but the doubleheader was moved to Friday due to expected inclement weather.
Tarleton is 10-12 overall after splitting with Texas A&M-International on Tuesday.
Julie Norris leads the team with a .392 batting average, 14 runs scored and 29 hits. She is second with 15 runs batted in. Victoria Kelly (.377), Arianna Rodriguez (.343), Rebecca Wessels (.338) and April Gonzalez (.321) are all hitting above the .300-mark. Wessels has also scored 14 runs, and she leads the squad in 15 walks and in stolen bases with 25-of-27 attempts. Kelly is second on the team with 26 hits while Rodriguez has 16 RBI to lead the team. Tarleton is batting .305 as a team against an opponents' earned run average of 3.90.
The TexAnns are led in the circle by Norris with a 2.41 ERA and a 6-7 record. She has pitched in 89.2 innings and has allowed 21 walks while striking out 64. Opponents are hitting .210 off the senior. Katie Smith is second in pitching with a 4-5 record and a 4.75 ERA. She has pitched 55.0 innings and struck out 32 while walking 12. Tarleton has a combined ERA of 3.30 as opponents are hitting .244 as a team.
UCO is 14-8 this season and is coming off two losses at No. 7 Midwestern State on Tuesday.
Kelsie Deckard leads the team with a .360 batting average while Kacie Edwards (.357) tops the squad with 25 hits. Both tie for the team lead in RBI with 12 each. Molly Shivers (.353), Megan Bentley (.333) and Kelsey Tiger (.300) are also hitting well for the Bronchos. Tiger leads the team with 14 runs scored. UCO has a team batting average of .295 while opponents have an ERA of 3.63.
Racheal Steverson is tops on the team in the pitching with a 2.41 ERA and a 6-3 record. She has pitched in 69.2 innings and has 24 walks and 59 strikeouts while opponents are hitting .281. Shivers is second with a 7-5 record and a 3.22 ERA. She has pitched in 63.0 innings and has 28 walks and 58 strikeouts. As a team, the Bronchos have an ERA of 3.04 to an opponents' batting average of .283.
This will be the first two games between the two teams this season, and the TexAnns and Bronchos did play last season.
